Dear Member,
CWU/RMG AGREEMENT: OUR CAMPAIGN
Our ballot on the new agreement between the CWU and Royal Mail is now open. Keep an eye out for ballot materials that will arrive at your home in a few days.
It is really important you use your vote before the ballot closes on the 29th of May
.
GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT: HOW WILL IT HELP?
The CWU has undertaken a serious political campaign to resolve the service crisis, secure our demands for Royal Mail and ensure that the company honours their commitments to the union.
Thanks to our members and reps, this campaign is succeeding. So far, we have secured:
Pressure from MPs raising our issues in Parliament and with the employer, thanks to thousands of our members writing to their MPs.
An evidence session regarding our members’ issues at the Business and Trade Select Committee and a written guarantee for ongoing scrutiny from the Committee.
An ongoing commitment from the Secretary of State for Business and Trade to oversee the process of honouring the agreements made by EP Group to the CWU, including equalisation.
It is very unusual for a union operating in the private sector to have secured this amount of Government involvement in our agreement process. These commitments will help us influence the direction of the company and ensure that we get the service back on track.
The agreement launches a new part of this campaign, where we will work with the Government and Royal Mail to address the lack of fairness in the sector.
TACKLING THE GIG-ECONOMY
It is no secret that Royal Mail is being undercut by parcel giants like Amazon, who are creating serious pressure on the company and threatening our members’ terms and conditions.
We want action on bogus self-employment to ensure that multinationals cannot use loopholes to avoid paying National Insurance and other costs, while Royal Mail directly employs their own workers.
As part of this agreement, the union and Royal Mail are also going to be campaigning for these parcel couriers to have to contribute to the cost of maintaining the universal network.
This will level the playing field between them and give Royal Mail the best chance at success.
This agreement will help secure our members’ jobs and the future of the service. We are asking all members to support this agreement and vote YES in the ballot.
Your ballot materials should arrive at our home in the next few days. The materials posted to you will contain your link to vote online.
Vote YES. Vote by 29/5.
